What is MBT?
MBT (2-Mercaptobenzothiazole) is an organic sulfur-based compound and one of the most widely used primary acidic accelerators in rubber vulcanization. It plays a key role in enhancing the efficiency of the cross-linking process and improving the mechanical and physical properties of rubber materials. Due to its advantageous vulcanization characteristics, MBT has become one of the most commonly applied accelerators in the rubber industry. Thanks to its performance, MBT is widely used in the production of tires, inner tubes, footwear, hoses, conveyor belts, and a variety of technical rubber products; however, it is not suitable for materials intended for food contact applications.
Properties:
Has a slightly unpleasant odor and a bitter taste but is non-toxic. Its specific gravity ranges between 1.46 and 1.52. It dissolves in ethyl acetate, acetone, dilute sodium hydroxide and sodium carbonate solutions, and ethyl alcohol. It is poorly soluble in benzene and completely insoluble in water and gasoline.
Applications:
Suitable for NR, IR, SBR, NBR, HR, and EPDM. It is one of the most commonly used acidic accelerators today and serves as a medium-fast primary accelerator. It provides excellent aging resistance when used alone or together with DM, TT, and other mainly basic accelerators with higher activity. However, caution is advised due to a slight risk of scorching. It is not suitable for materials intended for food contact. It is primarily used in the production of tires, tubes, footwear, rubber belts, hoses, and similar products.
Packaging:
Supplied in 25 kg bags.
Storage:
Store in a cool, well-ventilated area with the container securely sealed. Under normal conditions, the maximum recommended storage period is 1 year.
